MyUV

A Cancer Council WA Website

While Australia is blessed with a beautiful sun-kissed climate, it’s also home to some of the highest levels of cancer causing ultraviolet (UV) radiation in the world. In response to this, Cancer Council WA launched MyUV. The site provides reliable knowledge and tools for users to not only access local, real time UV levels Australia wide, but educate themselves on the appropriate response to take.

Distl have been fortunate to partner with Cancer Council WA for over 10 years and over that time, we’ve built multiple sites and campaigns across a range of requirements. The benefit of long-term relationships such as this is being able to more quickly and efficiently understand client needs and deliver a solution.

Having built the first MyUV site back in 2015, we understood the intricacies of the complex network of nationwide towers that feeds real time UV data to the website. Eight years on from building the original site our experience with the site and user data helped us to identify how a V2 could deliver an enhanced experience.

The Problem

Eight years on from its original build, the aging interface was not up to current design standards and needed a refresh. As such, we were briefed on the need to develop an exceptional user experience that is easy and intuitive to navigate.

A secondary challenge was that a complementary Cancer Council WA site, UV Daily was adding unnecessary complexity and up-keep. Part of our brief was to consolidate MyUV and UV Daily into a single platform.

An Exceptional User Experience

As with all our custom sites, we started by planning and implementing a strategic SEO foundation based on a data driven sitemap. In doing so, we addressed agreed Google ranking objectives and positioned MyUV as a leading resource for UV information in Western Australia.

With the right foundations in place, our team designed an intuitive user experience that maintained familiar navigation and display structures. This approach allowed users familiar with the old site to quickly find UV information, via a refreshed interface that simplifies access to content across mobile, tablet, and desktop.

Flexible Content Management for Cancer Council WA

To allow the client to easily self-manage the site content, we enhanced the site’s backend with flexible content layout options. This allows Cancer Council WA to independently manage updates and adjust the content layout as their needs evolve, keeping the site dynamic and relevant.

Supporting Sun Safety into the Future

Cancer Council WA’s mission is to promote sun safety, and we are incredibly honoured to continue partnering in such a worthwhile pursuit.

The new site represents a significant upgrade to a site we built way back in 2015. We look forward to continuing to iterate and improve on such an important initiative.
